5 NEW TRAINS WILL BE PURCHASED UNDER "TRANSPORT CONNECTIVITY" PROGRAM

Ministry of Transport and Communications, as a beneficiary, will receive over 154 million leva Grant aid for the purchase of five new zero-emission electric multiple unit trains.

Each of the trains will have four carriages and a capacity of at least 300 seats, with a speed of up to 160 km/h and a contracted maintenance period of 15 years.

The project has been designated as an operation of strategic importance under  “Transport Connectivity” Programme 2021–2027, and the grant agreement was signed today.

The funding is provided by the European Regional Development Fund – 85%, and the remaining 15% is national co-financing.

The project implementation deadline is June 30, 2027.

The new trains are part of the  long-term vision of the Ministry to create sustainable and modern rail transport, for the benefit of citizens and the environment. The implementation of the project will ensure more environmentally friendly, safe and modern rail transport.
