The Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov and the mayor of Lom Municipality Penka Penkova signed a contract for construction of a composting installation. Under the project a facility for the processing of separately collected green and/or biodegradable waste generated on the territory of the municipality will be built. The plant has a capacity of over 3000 tons per year and will serve approximately 25,000 inhabitants.
The total amount of the investment is over BGN 3.2 million. The Operational Programme "Environment 2014-2020" provides grants amounting to BGN 2.4 million. The project implementation period is 17 months.
The project is in line with the waste management hierarchy and with European and national targets for phased reduction of the amount of biodegradable municipal waste destined for landfill.
