The Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov and Mayor of Lom Municipality Penka Penkova signed a contract for the strengthening of landslides with funds from Operational Program Environment (OPE) 2014-2020. The implementation of the project will prevent landslide processes on an area of 18 hectares and will increase the protection of the lives and health of more than 2,000 people.
The activities envisage preventive measures to improve the security of the settlement, incl. protection of residential, industrial buildings, agricultural land, streets, water mains and other technical infrastructure. Under the project, construction works will be carried out to reduce the groundwater level, extend the existing monitoring system, and build a retaining wall along the coastline of Boruna neighborhood in Lom.
The total amount of the investment is BGN 8.5 million, provided entirely by the OPE 2014-2020. The implementation deadline for the project is 24 months.
The activities under the project will support the implementation of the National Program for Prevention and Reduction of Landslides, according to which the preventive measures are of paramount importance for the protection of human life and health and for overcoming the material losses from the activation of landslides.
