OP "Environment 2014-2020" announced a procedure for addressing transport as a source of atmospheric pollution. The total amount of the grant is BGN 500 million.
The objective is to improve the quality of ambient air by reducing the levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxides by addressing transport as a source of contamination.
The measures to be supported by co-financing from the Cohesion Fund to the 2014-2020 OPE will help improve the characteristics of vehicles serving municipal transport - replacement of obsolete and depreciated vehicles with new modern electric rolling stock (electric cars, trolleybuses and trams). This will reduce air emissions, reduce noise and vibration, and save energy. Improving reliability, comfort and travel time with public transport will encourage changing travel patterns and reducing passenger car journeys, thus reducing the amount of harmful gases from internal combustion engines.
Eligible candidates for the procedure are the municipalities of Bourgas, Varna, Vratsa, Pernik, Pleven, Ruse, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Sofia Municipality and Haskovo in partnership with the respective company, which is entrusted with the provision of a public transport service on the territory of the specific municipality.
The maximum duration for project implementation is 40 months.
