Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov signed contracts with the municipalities of Gabrovo, Galabovo and Svilengrad for the prevention and management of the flood risk of the Sinkevitsa, Haidushk kladenche and Kalandikka dams. The projects will be implemented under Operational Program "Environment 2014-2020".
The Gabrovo municipality project envisages the rehabilitation of the Sinkevitza dam and its facilities, so that the dam will perform its functions as a regulating facility. The implementation of the contract will improve the technical condition of the critical infrastructure and will increase the preparedness for flood response.
The signing of the contract with the Municipality of Galabovo, gives a start of the activities for restoration and strengthening of the "Haidushko kladenche" dam's wall and its facilities. The dam is located on the territory of the municipality of Galabovo and the improvement of the technical and operational state of the wall is of utmost importance.
The project of Svilengrad municipality is for the prevention and management of the flood risk of the settlements along the Levcenskaya and Maritsa rivers, protection of people's life and securing the strategic infrastructure sites such as Maritza Motorway and Kapitan Andreevo Border Checkpoint. This objective will be achieved in the implementation of measures for the construction of a notification system on the territory of Svilengrad Municipality as part of the National Early Warning and Disclosure System.
With the implementation of the three projects, nearly 61,000 inhabitants will benefit from flood protection measures. The total amount of the investment under the three contracts is 2.35 million BGN, provided entirely by the OP "Environment 2014-2020". The implementation period is 24 months.
