Short description of the project |
The project is linked to the construction of a new metro line of 7.8 km, 8 metro stations, depot and delivery of rolling stock. |
Description of the project and objectives |
The project concerns the construction of the new Line 3 of the Sofia Metro which includes a new metro 7.8 km long from Vladimir Vazov via a central urban part to Tzar Boris III Blvd, the junction with Zhitnitsa Str. The project for this route has been provisionally called Stage I of the construction of the Line 3. The project also covers the construction of 8 metro stations, Zhitnitsa Metro site and delivery of the required rolling stock. For tunnel construction in this major section of the track the thyroid technology of a mechanised shield with back pressure shall be applied. For the complex engeneer and hydro-geologicalconditions along the route in 2016, the German company ‘Hertenskinrecht’ has been produced a tunnelling machinery (TAMP) for operating in low water soils. It is fully computerised and its diameter, according to the specificities of the third line, is 40 cm higher than the previous TMP, which builds the Line 2. The machine weighs 1400 tonnes and bears the name ‘Vitosha’. It has a length of 86 metres. With the help of the TMP, a 7 km of 9.4 m two-road tunnel with a diameter of m shall be constructed in the section of the Zitnitsa Street landfill to the Small City Theatre of the Zad Channel. The project also includes activities for the construction of a new state-of-the-art landfill site, the delivery of a 20 metro train with a level of automatic management GoA3. This means that the trains are capable of performing the following functions: Automatically triggered, automatically commanded break to the nearest 20 cm, automatic speed monitoring and track profile and maintenance of the permitted speed. A modern high level of automatisation has ensured high traffic safety. The equipment of trains allows energy savings of about 28 % (with conventional energy recovery engines in braking mode or in coasting), as well as the light aluminium bowl. Sea departure and braking are ensured, together with the air conditioning of the wagons and improved passenger comfort. On the underground stations between platforms and the train, there will be peratic doors with a height of 1.56 m that will open automatically with the opening of the train doors. The equipment of the electrical supply, automation, traffic management and barrier doors between trains and platforms are part of the construction of the Line 3 of the Sofia Metro. |
