On 30.10.2023 the construction of the second lot of Elin Pelin - Kostenets railway section has started. LOT 2 also includes the route between Vakarel and Ihtiman.
This is one of the largest projects planned for implementation under Operational Programme on "Transport and Transport Infrastructure" 2014-2020. The facility is part of corridor number 8 and the passing TEN-T network in our country.
The scope of the contract includes construction of a new railway, contact network, systems and equipment of external power supply and external lighting of the station areas, as well as construction of video surveillance systems and passenger information systems.
4 overpasses will also be built, 3 bridges, 39 culverts, as well as noise protection facilities with an approximate length of 448 m and drainage facilities. A fence will be placed on both sides of the railway section to prevent crossing the railway line, in the stations and between the stations.
The scope of the LOT 2 modernization project includes Verinsko station, Ihtiman station and Stambolovo station. Ihtiman station will be equipped with route computer centralization (MCC).
The expected speeds for passenger transport are 160 km/h, and for freight 120 km/h.
The construction of the railway section Vakarel - Ihtiman, part of the project "Modernization of the railway line Sofia - Plovdiv: railway sections Elin Pelin - Kostenets" is carried out with co-financing from the Cohesion Fund, through Operational Program on "Transport and Transport Infrastructure" 2014-2020.
The value of the construction contract is BGN 113,609,830.15 excluding VAT.
